Ramayana Ballet
As the sun drops behind the Menoreh Hills, the stone spires of Prambanan are lit from below and the stage comes alive. Two hundred dancers in golden costumes tell the story of Rama and Sita — a story carved into the very temple walls behind them. The gamelan plays. The crowd falls quiet. This is the Java that travellers come back for.
Since 1961, the Ramayana Ballet has been performed at Prambanan — one of Indonesia's most iconic cultural experiences. The performance runs approximately 2 hours, combining Javanese dance, drama, elaborate costuming, and live gamelan music. Special Class tickets include numbered seating and a complimentary soft drink. The outdoor stage uses the illuminated Prambanan Temple as its backdrop; during the rainy season (November–April) the show moves to the covered Trimurti Theatre.

Prambanan Temple tickets — explore the temple before the show
The Prambanan Temple ticket is sold separately. Arriving 2–3 hours before the performance gives you time to explore the complex in the late afternoon light before the Ballet begins.
Add Prambanan Temple ticket — €49pp →What nights does the performance run?
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. The show starts at 19:30 and runs approximately 2 hours. We recommend arriving 30–45 minutes early for entry and to find your seats.
Outdoor or indoor — what's the difference?
May–October (dry season): the show is performed outdoors at the Open Air Theatre with the illuminated Prambanan Temple as a backdrop — this is the definitive experience. November–April (rainy season): if rain occurs before the show starts, the performance moves to the covered Trimurti Indoor Theatre. If rain begins after 45 minutes of the outdoor show, the performance is considered complete and no refund is given.
What is Special Class seating?
Special Class offers numbered seating — your seats are reserved and you don't need to rush for position. It also includes a complimentary soft drink. We book Special Class as standard as it offers the best experience without the premium VIP price.
Is the Prambanan Temple ticket included?
No — the Ramayana Ballet ticket covers the performance only. The temple entry ticket is sold separately. If you want to explore Prambanan before the show, book your temple ticket here — a combined day visit and evening performance is the best way to experience the site.
What is the cancellation policy?
All sales are final. Tickets are non-refundable once we have purchased them on your behalf. The only exception is if we cannot secure your tickets, in which case we refund you in full within 24 hours.
Does my name need to match my passport?
